The Okmulgee Fire Department will begin their annual testing of the city’s fire hydrants beginning Monday, August 7. According to Fire Chief Bruce Swearingen, this process should take about six to eight weeks to complete.
Testing will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday during the process, beginning on the west side of the city and gradually working eastward.
This is required for insurance purposes, while also making sure that hydrants will work properly in case of emergency. Water in faucets and pipes may run dirty while testing is underway.
