Adult Basic Education Classes offered

 General Education Diploma (GED)

OSU Institute of Technology is offering Adult Basic Education classes for the General Education Diploma (GED) preparation at the following locations through June 30, 2016.

Dewar Indian Community Center – Classes are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. All subject areas are covered for GED preparation. A special Okmulgee County Community Awareness program sponsored by the Schulter First United Methodist Church and Rev. Kris Maybery was held Tuesday in the Schulter High School gymnasium April 5.

Featured guests were Okmulgee County Sheriff Eddy Rice, Okmulgee Fire Marshall Rick Chisum, Okmulgee County Emergency Management Director Tim Craighton, Okmulgee County Paramedic Julie Grammer, Federal Wildlife Officer Max Carr and Special guest news on 6 crime reporter Lori Fulbright.

Senior Star at Plantation House Annual Fundraiser Yard Sale April 1st-3rd!

The Okmulgee County Homeless Shelter will hold a Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser March 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Okmulgee Elks Lodge located at 701 South Mission Lane in Okmulgee.

Advance tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for children, three and under eat free. Tickets at the door will be $7 for adults and $6 for children.  You may stop at the Okmulgee County homeless shelter to get tickets.

Please join us at our next Okmulgee County Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy meeting on Monday, March 21st  from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm.  

The meeting will be held at the Okmulgee Public Library, Basement located at 218 S. Okmulgee Avenue, Okmulgee, OK.  It is vital that the community be involved in developing plans to address the issue of Teen Pregnancy.  

Everyone (parents, educators, physicians, community partners, service providers and youth ages 14-24) are encouraged to attend and bring a friend. 

A Good Friday Service (March 25) will be held at 7 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church located at 217 N Osage Ave, Okmulgee, OK 74447.

The service is sponsored by the Okmulgee Ministerial Alliance. Speaker will be Pastor McKinley Rice of St. Matthew’s Baptist Church.

A Grief Support Group will start Tuesday, March 22, 2016 led by Reverend Judy Conner. The group will be meeting every Tuesday evening for ten weeks. The meetings will be 5:30 P.M.-7:00 P.M. each evening at the McClendon-Winters Life Celebration Center at 310 East Sixth in Okmulgee. Anyone who has experienced a loss is welcome. At our last meeting we began working on an overall vision statement and identified 3 groups to begin working on objectives.

The Morris Boy Scout Troop 298 is having a Pancake Breakfast this Saturday Feb  from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Okmulgee Elks Lodge.

Funds raised will send 15 boy scouts go to camp this summer.
