It’s almost time for the Friday night lights to fire up, fans.
The Wilson Tigers football team, led by head coach Ronnie Titsworth, will begin their second year of competition on Friday, August 25 at home against Dewar at 7:30 p.m, where they will look to improve on their inaugural 1-7 record. The Dragons won last year’s meeting 68-0.
September begins with a trip to Weleetka to face the Graham-Dustin Chieftains on the 1st, then September 8 is a home contest against the Immanuel Lutheran (Broken Arrow) Crusaders. The Olive (Drumright) Wildcats visit on September 15, and the Tigers will host the South Coffeyville Lions on September 22. The month closes with a trip to Bartlesville to face the Wesleyan Christian Mustangs.
October 6 the Tigers will go to Claremore Christian for a tussle with the Warriors, and October 13 brings a road contest against the Eagle Point Christian (Sapulpa) Eagles; in their matchup last season, WHS earned their debut win with the 54-8 victory. October 20 is a bye week, while a trip to Choctaw is in store for October 27’s matchup with the Life Christian Eagles.
The season wraps up with home rematch with Graham-Dustin on November 3. All games begin at 7:30 p.m., and WHS will compete in Class B district 4. Wilson High School is located at 8867 Chestnut Road in Henryetta.
The Dewar Dragons, coached by Josh Been, will be part of district B-6, and their 2017 season begins in Henryetta at Wilson on August 25.
September 1 brings a trip to Grizzly Country as the Dragons go to Gans, who they defeated 49-0 last year. The home opener is September 8 against the Allen Mustangs, while district play begins with a September 15 visit to the Coyle Bluejackets. September 22 is a bye week, and the month closes when the Davenport Bulldogs come to town on September 29.
October 6 takes Dewar to the Warriors of Haileyville, while Thursday, October 12, the Dragons welcome the Wetumka Chieftains. A non-district road trip to Oklahoma City awaits on October 20 as DHS travels to face the Destiny Christian Wildcats, while on Thursday, October 26, Dewar travels to the realm of the Outlaws for a game against Weleetka.
The regular season wraps up on Senior Night November 3 with a home contest against the Canadian Cougars. Except for the Coyle game, which begins at 7 p.m., all games kick off at 7:30 p.m.
